Happy International Women’s Day!

Life self fam life balance (15)

Trapper Creek issued the following announcement on March 9.

Our history is full of powerful women that have helped shape our state into what it is today. Get inspired with some of their stories.

1.    Elizabeth Peratrovich was an Alaska Native Tlingit woman who fought for Alaska Native civil rights and influenced the first-ever anti-discrimination bill for Alaska in 1945. / Photo from the Alaska State Library Portrait File, Alaska State Library, ASL-Peratrovich-Elizabeth-1

2.    Susan Butcher was a four-time champion of The Iditarod, setting records as the first musher to win three consecutive Iditarod races. / Photo from the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame

3.    Irene Ryan moved to Alaska in 1931 after hearing stories about bush pilots from her uncle. On June 23, 1932, she became the first woman to ever complete a solo flight, in what was then the territory of Alaska, paving the way for many future female pilots.
