Fire Year 2022

Matanuska-Susitna Borough issued the following announcement on April 1.

Mat-Su Valley residents don't have to go to the trouble of piling and burning spruce-beetle-killed trees or blowdown from this winter's windstorm and risk the chance of starting a wildfire.

With funding assistance from the Alaska Division of Forestry, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough has set up free brush disposal sites in Palmer, Big Lake, Willow and Talkeetna to make life easier for residents and reduce human-caused wildfires as a result of debris burning, which is the leading cause of wildfires in Alaska. People can drop off their brush and slash and borough staff will burn or chip it for them free of charge at a later date.

Keep in mind, the Talkeetna drop-off site doesn't open until June 1 and the opening of the Willow drop-off site may be delayed because of snow. Click on the story below to get details about where the sites are located and hours of operation.
