3R’s Of Munitions Safety

Learn the “3R’s” of munitions safety – Recognize, Retreat and Report!

The 86,000 acre Susitna Gunnery Range is 22 miles from Wasilla and 1.6 miles across Knik Arm from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson - JBER. The site was used in 1946 as an impact area for anti-aircraft artillery. While the firing point was located on JBER, the impact area stretched like a fan over eight-miles across Point MacKenzie. As a former military site, the Susitna Gunnery Range may contain spent munitions. Visitors should be aware of the these ordnance’s presence.

To learn more, attend a public awareness training session at 7:00 p.m. on May 18 at Fire Station 6-2: Knik Public Safety Building located at Mile 7 Knik Goose Bay Road.
