Smoke is moving into South Central and Interior Alaska this morning from some of the 45 active fires in Southwest Alaska. The more than 100,000 acre increase from yesterday is due to these fires continuing to grow. Additional firefighting resources are arriving in Alaska to help with suppression efforts.The overall weather this weekend has been cooling in the west and warming to the east. Winds are turning today to now come out of the southwest, changing fire spread concerns as the threat changes directions. More thunderstorms across the Interior today will bring some scattered rain but may also spark are fires. Looking ahead to next week, conditions will moderate in the southwest, though not much rain is expected. Fire concerns will shift to eastern Alaska next week.
