California's Glass Fire has engulfed 600 homes and threatens 21,000 more.

Alaska DOF crews from the MatSu Area teamed up with firefighters from the Houston, Big Lake, West Lakes and Central Fire Departments to stop a 2.4 acre fire along Armstrong Road in Houston on Thursday afternoon. Initial attack by DOF Engine Crews and Helitack Crews using helicopter bucket drops, and cooperation from Alaska State Troopers on scene helped stop the fire’s progress, burning in mixed spruce and hardwoods. The fire’s cause is under investigation with help from two fire investigators from Canada currently assigned to the DNR. The Gannet Glacier Fire Crew also responded to the incident and worked on the fire into the morning hours on Friday. Incident Commander Nathan Blydenburgh of the DOF said the strong unified response was key in stopping the fire’s spread. Burn permits are required and the public is advised to never leave any fire unattended. #2022AlaskaFireSeason #AKDOF #armstrongfire
