Fellow Palmerites - We, along with our Public Works Department, need your help.
When it snows or blows around here (which seems like all the time in Palmer), our Public Works comes out in the early morning to remove the snow/drifts from our streets so everyone can get around safely. However, our City plow trucks have been regularly encountering vehicles parked on the street preventing said snow removal.
According to Palmer Municipal Code 10.04.050, "When an accumulation of two or more inches of snowfall or drifting snow conditions exist, overnight parking is prohibited during the period of 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on all city streets and rights-of-way in commercial, industrial, or public districts to facilitate snow removal. Also, when an accumulation of two or more inches of snowfall or drifting snow conditions exist, parking is prohibited on all city streets and rights-of-way in all residential districts to facilitate snow removal.
What ends up happening is the police department is called out to try and contact owners of vehicles which are in the way. Most of the time we can make contact and get the vehicle moved, but there are times which no owner can be found. In those instances, the vehicle can be subject to impound, and we prefer only to do that as a last resort.
