WIDESPREAD SNOW EVENT FOR SOUTHCENTRAL TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...
A low pressure system will move in from the west Tuesday, bringinga front that will lift from southwest to northeast overSouthcentral beginning Tuesday night.
Snow is expected to spread in over the Kenai Peninsula beginningTuesday night. Snow will then fill in across the northern Gulfcoast, Susitna Valley, Matanuska Valley, and Copper River Basinearly Wednesday morning. For Anchorage and most of the MatanuskaValley, light snow may start during the overnight hours Tuesdayinto early Wednesday, with heavier snow filling in by Wednesdayafternoon. This is due to an initial "downsloping" effect thatwill postpone the start time of snow. It looks favorable for lightsnow to linger all the way trough Thursday for some parts ofSouthcentral, including Anchorage and the Mat-Su.
Model solutions have not shown great consistency with this event,which has led to low confidence in snow amounts. -Western Kenai Peninsula: 3 to 6 inches-Eastern Kenai Peninsula: 5 to 10 inches; highest amounts nearPortage Valley and through Turnagain Pass-Anchorage: 2 to 4 inches-Susitna Valley: 3 to 7 inches; highest amounts west of ParksHighway-Matanuska Valley: 3 to 5 inches-Copper River Basin: 1 to 3 inches, except 4 to 7 inches nearPaxson-Valdez: 7 to 14 inches; highest amounts through Thompson Pass
