Planning to Cut

Planning to cut your own Christmas tree? There are several areas on State land where tree harvesting is allowed (Fairbanks region, Kenai Peninsula, Mat-Su Valley)! Check out this #throwbackthursday story from KTVF Fairbanks with tips from Andrew Allaby of Alaska DNR - Division of Forestry & Fire Protection - DOF: https://www.webcenterfairbanks.com/.../harvesting-your.../  Then head over to #AKDNR’s webpage Christmas Tree Cutting on State Land (http://dnr.alaska.gov/commis/pic/christmastree.htm) with maps of where you can harvest a tree in these areas:

• Mat-Su Valley

• Kenai Peninsula

• Fairbanks

General guidelines

• One tree per household

• Trees must be less than 15 feet tall

• Harvest whole trees (don't take just the top)

• Cut stumps as low as possible

• Protect seedlings for future Christmas trees

• Respect private property
