Original post:
Several Winter Storm Watches have been issued for much of Southcentral including Susitna Valley, Matanuska Valley, Anchorage Bowl, the Kenai Peninsula, and the Copper River Basin.
We are monitoring the potential for a significant snowfall event that will arrive in two waves – the first wave Saturday night into Sunday, and the second wave late Sunday into Monday. These winter storm watches highlight the portion of time during which the most significant snowfall is expected.
Many locations across Southcentral will start to see snowfall arrive Saturday evening during the first wave, however the timing of concern for significant snowfall is during the second wave from late Sunday through Monday.
Anchorage Bowl: 10-16 inches possible; highest amounts on Hillside and in Eagle River
Susitna Valley: 8-16 inches possible, highest amounts south of Talkeetna
Matanuska Valley: 8-16 inches possible, highest north and east of Sutton and from Wasilla westward
Copper River Basin: 8-16 inches possible
Western Kenai Peninsula: 8-16 inches possible, highest amounts between Anchor Point and Ninilchik
Eastern Kenai Peninsula: 6-24 inches possible; lowest amounts along the coast where there is still uncertainty about rain/snow mix.
We are continuing to monitor this storm and will be making several updates over the next 48 hours as we have new information. Please stay tuned and check the forecast for updates. For the latest information, visit weather.gov/anchorage
