In the unfortunate circumstance that you find yourself missing your pet, or know someone who is missing a pet, what steps should you take?
Here are some recommended steps to help you reunite with your family faster:
• Contact your local animal control, or humane society, immediately to file a Lost Report. Include photos, microchip number (if applicable), and any identifying tags/collars.
• Come to your local animal control, or humane society, in person a few times a week.
• Create Lost Pet Fliers to hang up – Neon Signs with a Photo and the best number to reach you at.
• Contact your pets Microchip Company – many companies can send fliers out to local clinics on your behalf, and even emails.
• Contact your neighbors, and local vet clinics, to drop off the Lost Pet Fliers. If injured, your pet may end up at a vet clinic first.
• Post in local Lost/Found Pet Groups – “Mat-Su Lost and Found Pets” “Lost and Found Pets Alaska”
• Consider renting a humane animal trap if your animal is fearful, or unlikely to approach strangers.
