SPRING IS ON ITS WAY!

Here are a few things to think about as the snow melts.

As snow beings to fall off the roof, be sure to check completely around your home for anything that may need to be addressed. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO YOUR GAS METER. Be sure to listen for any “HISSING” noises and for any smell of gas. If you hear or smell gas, evacuate everyone form the area immediately, then call 911.

FLOODING -

IF YOU LIVE IN AN AREA THAT FLOODS:

*Have an emergency evacuation plan in place

*Gather needed supplies and create an “EMERGENCY GO-KIT”

IF YOU ARE UNDER A “FLOOD WARNING”:*Consider evacuating early

*Listen to local alerting systems or NOAA Weather Radio for updated information

IF YOU ARE TOLD TO EVACUATE:

* Evacuate immediately

*Do not drive around barricades

*DO NOT walk, swim, or drive through flood waters. TURN AROUND

*Avoid bridges over fast-moving water

CRAWL SPACES -

As the snow melts, regularly check your crawl space for flooding

IF YOUR CRAWL SPACE IS FLOODED:

*Remove the water with a wet vac for smaller amounts of water          or a sump pump for larger amounts of water. Be sure to pump the water far enough away that it does not flow back into the crawl space.

*Remove all wet materials from the crawl space

*Use a portable humidifier. Let it run for several hours. Be sure to check the crawl space often

*DO NOT USE a gas fired heater to dry your crawl space. Gas fired heaters produce Carbon Monoxide and can also be a fire danger

*Be sure all cords for any electrical devices are not under water
